Tutorial: Wearable Smokey Matte Green Eye Makeup (for black/dark brown eyes)

Sorry I'm not exactly the most creative when it comes to names/titles/lables so just bear with that ridiculously long title/name for this look.

So after 5 months of not filming a tutorial due to crazy schedules and stuffs, I finally squeezed one out yesterday!

Here's a ... ok read the title. Btw, there's a tip at the end of this post. Make sure to look out for that.

And here's a video of the tutorial! I know I'll be rambling too much so I decided to shut up and just concentrate on doing my thing. Overstuffed it with captions (top bottom left right omg) and threw in some  royalty free jazzy music downloaded from incompetech.com, upload into Youtube and voila.

And some pictures before I go on to the list of (omg so many) products used.

This is my 'experimental' or 'trial' look.

I absofreakinglutely LOVE the matte green eyeshadow released in MAC's Dare To Wear 2010 collection! It's my absolute favourite colour out of all which came out with the collection! Such a bold colour!

So for the look, everything's kept the same as my 'trial' except for the inner corners highlight and the brown on the crease. Here, I used a lighter brown and a lighter gold on the inner corners. Very soft, wearable and great for day time but... I prefered to have a little bit more kick.

More pictures after the cut!

Ok due to sucky editing skills, the green turned into something cooler than it actually is. I can tell this that the colour of this picture is looking cooler than it should be - the contacts and liner are supposed to be grey and black. Pardon my editing.

So anyway I decided to use a darker brown this time. It adds a little bit of smokiness to the whole look and at the same time adds some contour to the eye area. Also, I used a more frosty pale gold for the inner corners.

To emphasize the beautiful green eyeshadow, I decided to go really neutral on the cheeks and lips. It gives the whole look a better balance IMO.

Initially I wanted to pair this with my brown contacts but I realised it has expired T_T I tried to film without contacts but I couldn't see what I'm doing very clearly especially when I'm filming and the mirror's behind the camera. Last resort was grey contacts. But here are pictures of the look with my natural eye colour - dark brown. I personally think it looks better with darker eye colours.

I don't know if it's only my opinion but I think the green just makes dark eyes look more alluring. Ok I think it's time to get some black contacts.

Ok list of products!

Tip!
I was digging through my stash to see what I can use to ease the application/blending process of the green eyeshadow as it is a Matte finish and it IS time consuming to build and blend. It's going to be really dry, hard to blend and with some shadows, hard to build the intensity or get the colour right. In fact, the green turned out a little darker than what it looks in the pot when I apply it directly onto my lids. So girls and guys, the trick with matte shadows is use a base of a similar colour! Doesn't matter what type of base, as long as you have it applied evenly across the surface, and the edges blended nicely. It'll save you a WHOLE lot of time later.

Hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading everyone!

Ooooolalalala...You did the gel liner so much justice ^_^ It would have been totally un-loved by me :P Beautiful!

I LOVE green looks too, but I like a hint of gold in mine :D

Sue Lynn: thank you! it wasn't easy to find a reason to use the gel liner, but now sassy grass NEEDS it :P oohh i wanted to use some gold but skipped cos wanna focus on only one colour and make it as wearable as possible. vanilla pigment as the highlight would be really good :D

Thanks! I think it depends on how you wear it. Maybe use diff shades of green, or pair it with neutrals. I'm sure it'll work!
