A while back Stephanie from Julu Jewelry wanted to see a lipsticks comparison for MAC Creme D' Nude and Revlon Soft Nude.
...
Ok, not a while back. It was so long ago! I feel so guilty of not getting to it earlier =/ So anyway, this is for her and for those of you who are curious about these 2 highly raved nude lipsticks. It's a battle of drugstore and high end lipsticks!
From the tube, both lipsticks look similar but when applied/swatched, they're not at all.
MAC Creme D' Nude (Cremesheen) is a pale beige lipstick with pinky peach undertones.
Revlon Soft Nude is a peachy nude lipstick.
At the top are my bare lips, only had a layer of lipbalm.
I hope the swatches/colours are showing well... Now, here are some comparisons.
Price:
MAC Creme D' Nude - RM 68.00/3g
Revlon Soft Nude - RM 39.00/3.7g (I got mine at RM32.90 when it was first launched)
Notice how you get more of Revlon's product for less?
Application:
Both lipsticks apply and glide on smoothly to achieve full, opaque colour but Creme D' Nude finishes off very uneven on the lips whereas Soft Nude is a lot easier to work with. With Creme D' Nude, instead of swiping, I find that slowly dabbing the lipstick all over gives a better finish. I personally would prefer Soft Nude because it's only a few swipes and I'm good to go.Texture:
Creme D' Nude came as a winner in this category. Not that Soft Nude isn't creamy, but Creme D' Nude just takes the cake when it comes to creamy-ness. Afterall, Creme D' Nude is from the Cremesheen family.
Pigmentation:
Both lipsticks are pigmented enough to give colour with only one swipe but because Creme D' Nude is more creamy, it gives a more opaque finish. I first thought Soft Nude is a little more sheer if compared to Creme D' Nude but no, it's actually the way the colour is. Creme D' Nude is lighter, Soft Nude has more colour to it.

Finish:
Both lipsticks finish off with a sheen but as you can tell from the pictures of swatches, Creme D' Nude is apparently more glossy (plus a tiny hint of frost) than Soft Nude. Now, lines and dry patches. The thing in this category which makes Soft Nude a winner over Creme D' Nude is that it doesn't accentuate the dryness of my lips. With Creme D' Nude, I believe it's due to the colour of the lipstick being lighter and somewhat slightly frosty, it accentuates the lines and dry patches on my lips - evidently from the pictures. This accentuation has absolutely nothing to do with the lipstick being drying or anything.
Moisture level:
Moisture level in a lipstick is extremely important to me because I have very sensitive lips, it gets dry and chapped with most lipsticks I wear and I need a (maybe I should include the word "super good" here...) balm practically everyday, every morning, every night. With both lipsticks, I find that these aren't the most moisturizing lipsticks I've tried, you can obviously tell when your lips are loving what it wears. On the other hand, they aren't extremely drying either. It's a 'just nice' consistency that doesn't dry my lips so yay to that.
Colour:
The only thing which makes both lipsticks colour comparable is that they are both under the same family - NUDES. Other than that, I really wouldn't say both lipsticks are similar at all in terms of colour. To me, they are both different types of nudes to wear, or to pair with looks. Both colours are in the neutral family, but Soft Nude leans more towards the warm neutral whereas Creme D' Nude towards cool neutral due to the pink undertones.
Versatility:
To not have very pigmented lips, I personally find Soft Nude to be a better everyday nude lippie if compared to Creme D' Nude only because the latter is a much lighter colour. BUT, like I said, my lips aren't very pigmented so if you have very pigmented lips, Soft Nude might not be nude enough for you. I find Creme D' Nude more suitable to be paired with bold eye makeup because it's a lighter colour. That being said, it doesn't mean Soft Nude isn't great for bold eye makeup. Ultimately, it all depends on the pigmentation of your lips.

Ok this is taking forever!
My overall opinion is, if you have fairly pigmented lips and you're looking for a wearable nude lipstick for every other day which will not make you look dead, Revlon Soft Nude. If you have very pigmented lips, Creme D' Nude. If you want a concealer-type nude lipstick to go with your oh-so-sexy smoky eyes, Creme D' Nude. I wouldn'd judge these lipsticks based on the price/amount of product because like I've said, the colours are different. One isn't the dupe for the other.
Here's a summary to all my endless ramblings!
I hope that has been helpful. Thanks for reading!
* Omg sorry I totally forgot to talk about the smell. MAC lipsticks as most of you would have known, is vanilla-scented. Revlon Soft Nude to me is pretty much scentless.

I could NOT have put it better myself ^_^ LOL {{EXACTLY}} my thoughts...
excellent comparison! I have Soft Nude and I already think that it's a tad too pink for my liking. well, i still like it just would prefer it to look slightly warmer. ah, I still have other nude lippies :p
Marie: thank you, glad it has been helpful! :)
Sue Lynn: lol as i was typing i kept thinking about how you constantly tell me your lips are so pigmented you cannot go on a day without a nude lippie and how creme d nude is an everyday nude for you! definitely noted it down as i wrote this review so technically you helped me to complete this review! ;)
Connie: Thank you! Aaah maybe its the difference in skintone that alters the opinion? Anyhow, yeap. There is still a million other nude lippies to choose from ;D
Actually, Soft Nude appears a soft pink on me, so I'm not bitchin'! So I use it when I want more colour :D
Hhhmm...Much like MAC's Hue..Since Hue is unavailable here and I treat my one tube as a precious commodity ...Boooooooo....
Sue Lynn: hrmm this is so strange! soft nude looks pink on both you and Connie, but to me it looks like a soft peach! Maybe it's the diff pigmentation of our lips..
oooh! I like the soft nude by Revlon! I actually just ran out of my regular MAC color (Hue). Maybe it's time for a new. :)
Bunnie: never tried Hue before, a friend of mine loves it sooo much! are they similar in colour? but i highly recommend soft nude! affordable and wearable :)
